Dr. Ernest Sekunna began frequenting metaphysical and psychic development circles in the village of Cassadaga, Florida during the mid-1960s, often with his young son Matthew tagging along. By 1970, he and a small group of like-minded sensitives began operating the Universal Centre of Cassadaga and the Universal Church of Spiritual Sciences. In this small building next to the site of the old Cassadaga Men’s Club meeting house, whose steps and foundation wall may still be seen around our picnic area, Dr. Sekunna and his friends dedicated themselves to the exploration of many of the psychic sciences. Rev. Bonnie Bemus would host lectures on Natural Law and other metaphysical topics during Sunday services of the Universal Church of Spiritual Science. Dr. Sekunna and others would teach development classes, palmistry classes, and other techniques for psychic phenomena and readings. The Universal Centre’s metaphysical bookstore was, at one time, wall-to-wall books on all manner of psychic, spiritual, and metaphysical topics, and boasted the largest selection of books on the astrological sciences – at least in the United States.
In the 1990s, Dr. Sekunna’s son, Matthew took over management and ownership of the Universal Centre. By this time, the Centre had gone through many transformations, restructuring the internal layout of the building to house reading offices, putting out a metaphysical newsletter of classes and events, and hosting a variety of psychic fairs across the state of Florida. Dr. Sekunna had dedicated himself through his work to educate truth-seekers in the hopes of creating an all-inclusive, universal atmosphere of acceptance – all the while trying to open minds, hearts, and opinions of skeptics and slanderers of those who have developed their psychic capacities and embraced their psychic gifts to serve the Divine and humanity. With the principle of his father’s foundation, Matthew has continued to transform the Centre. Through the rest of the 1990s and the turn of the century, Matthew maintained the variety of classes and psychic readings available at the Centre. The Metaphysical Bookshop expanded into a Spiritual Gift shop, where people of all traditions can find meaningful gifts and spiritual, psychic, & healing tools overflowing with myriad symbolism. Today, the Universal Centre operates under Omin Orion, Inc. – a Sekunna Family wholesale company for most of the books, gifts, and jewelry found in the Centre. We continue to offer world-renowned psychic readings, as well as spiritual healing, development classes, meditation circles, and astrology services.
Throughout the years, the Universal Centre of Cassadaga has been home to many friendly spirits, both in the body and beyond. Astrologers, numerologists, palmists, card readers, aura photographers, Spirit artists, Spirit mediums, shamans, massage therapists, spiritual healers, energy- body-workers and hypnotherapists from all kinds of backgrounds with all kinds of specialties have made contributions through their Service to all those who have ventured into the Universal Centre for readings, guidance, education, or entertainment. Likewise, with this dedication to Spirit, service, and truth, they have all grown the Universal Centre for the past forty years. The 40th Anniversary Celebration from March18th through March 21st, during the Spring Equinox, will be a celebration of 40 years of service, integrity, and excellence, which we endeavor to continue for another 40 years. Our gratitude for the opportunity to be so well-established, for the loyalty throughout the years of all our friends – old & new – is immeasurable, save for our capacity to move forward, ever growing while strengthening our eternal integrity of Spirit.
